The Album

A Roots Gospel Testimony in Ten Songs

Cara Paige is a Jewish woman — the daughter of a South African immigrant, from a family that survived the Holocaust and left Poland behind. Anne Frank is her 11th cousin, once removed. A Jewish artist writing a roots gospel album is nearly unheard of — and that is exactly why this record exists. Light. Hope. Faith. is ten songs of resilience and hope: everything her family endured, carried, and overcame, and the God who was there through it all — guiding them to safety, to America, to a new life, to the Georgia soil where her mother planted roots.

“No matter what hardships my family has gone through, music has been there for me — a land line for my emotions. I want to understand, and I want to tell my story and my ancestors’ stories. I believe in God. I believe everything happens for a reason.”

That testimony runs through every track. Bad Days With You measures every hard day against what her ancestors endured — and finds that with loved ones beside you, there are no bad days at all. Snake Hunting and Devil Don’t Mess With Me answer generations who were forced to hide: I’m not gonna hide, and I sure ain’t running. All it Takes is a Little Faith carries her Nana’s own words — “Cara, you have to have faith” — and We All Bleed Crimson Red preaches loving thy neighbor as thyself: whatever our race, religion, gender, or sexuality, we all bleed the same. The title track charges us to be the light, the hope, and the faith, before If God Had a Number closes the record with the question underneath it all — why do bad things still happen? — and lands where her family always has: everything happens for a reason, and God has a plan.

Every song was written by Cara Paige with collaborators Justine Blazer, Corey Lee Barker, Steve O’Brien, Nona Brown, and Danica Hart — except the closing track, If God Had a Number, which Cara wrote alone. The album was produced, mixed, and mastered by Justine Blazer.

You’re Making Me a Believer — A testimony of witness: “Each day I have seen the miracles that God is capable of.” Faith found one day at a time.

    He's making me a believer
    Yeah, yeah

    You’re making me a believer
    One day at a time
All it took was a little faith
    To make my soul shine
    Miracles are happening
You put your hand in mine
    You’re making me a believer
    One day at a time

I was living in the darkness
And the shadow of my doubt
    Hindered by hopelessness
    Haunted by grey clouds
    Now I see the light
    Since the sun's come out
    It makes me wanna holler
    It makes me wanna shout

    You’re making me a believer
    One day at a time
All it took was a little faith
    To make my soul shine
    Miracles are happening
You put your hand in mine
    You’re making me a believer
    One day at a time

    Your spirit’s moving through me
    I feel it all around
    I hear the angels singing
    It’s the sweetest sound
I see the work you’re doing
    Big cities or small towns
    Living in abundance
    Where your love is found

    You’re making me a believer
    One day at a time
All it took was a little faith
    To make my soul shine
    Miracles are happening
You put your hand in mine
    You’re making me a believer
    One day at a time

    Making me a believer

    Yeah, yeah
    Yeah, yeah

    You’re making me a believer
One day at a time (one day at a time)
All it took was a little faith
To make my soul shine (make it shine)
    Miracles are happening
You put your hand in mine
    You’re making me a believer
    One day at a time

    You're making me a believer
    One day at a time

    Yeah, yeah

    You're making me a believer (I believe, I believe)

    Yeah, yeah (I believe)

    I believe, I believe

    You're making me a believer

    Yeah, yeah

    You're making me a believer

    Yeah, yeah

    You're making me a believer

    All right

    Making me a believer

    All right

    He's making me a believer

    I’m floatin’ over the moon
Never been so high on you
    Intoxicated by everything you do
    Ain’t that what love does

My head is spinnin’ round and round
Wrapped in the miracle I found
You say my name and I’m heaven bound
    Ain’t that what love does

Ain't that what love does, love does
    Woah, oh, oh, oh, oh
Ain't that what love does, love does
    Woah, oh, oh, oh, oh

I’ve gone so far past the edge
You’ve got me divin’ off the ledge
This crazy feelin’ oh it just won’t let me rest
    Ain’t that what love does

Ain't that what love does, love does
    Woah, oh, oh, oh, oh
Ain't that what love does, love does
    Woah, oh, oh, oh, oh
Every wall around my heart is turning into dust
    Ain't that what love does
    Woah, oh, oh, oh, oh

    I'm sinking
    I'm falling
    Forever is calling
    Calling, calling out my name

Ain't that what love does, love does
Ain't that what love does, love does

    Color me a sinner
    Color me a saint
I’ll never be as perfect as the rainbows that you make
Bless me with your grace that comes from above
Paint me in the colors of your love

From purple snow white mountain tops
    To rocky red dirt roads
Waves that crash in ocean blue
    On silver and gold coasts

    Everywhere I look
    Your glory abounds
Reflecting in all the blessings I've found

    Read the lyrics

I know it’s dark for you
No one knows what you’re going through

You're feeling like hope is gone
    Trying hard to hold on
But I do, yeah I really do

    Give yourself a little grace
You’re gonna make it another day

All it takes is a little faith
A little faith to break these chains
Everything will change for the better

All it takes is a little step
He’s there for you just take a breath
I promise you it'll change for the better
All it takes is a little faith

    I know it’s been tough, that’s true
The devil’s had it out for you

God gave me an angel, a guide
Always there right by my side
He’ll do the same for you
    Yeah, the same for you

All it takes is a little faith
A little faith to break these chains
Everything will change for the better

All it takes is a little step
He’s there for you just take a breath
I promise you it'll change for the better
All it takes is a little faith

Faith from the valley to the highest peak
All from the size of a mustard seed

All it takes is a little faith
A little faith to break these chains
Everything will change for the better

All it takes is a little step
He’s there for you just take a breath

Snake Hunting — The album’s turning point. Her ancestors had to hide from the Nazis; she will not. Show your face. Don’t fear the enemy. “I’m not gonna hide, I sure ain’t running.”

    Read the lyrics

TV’s on, Lord, what am I watching?
Snake population's at an all time high
    I can’t tell what's fact or fiction
All I see are deception and lies

They can shed their skin, look shiny and new
But a snake's gonna do what a snake's gonna do

    Gonna suit up
    Going down to the river
Shotgun loaded up by my side
    Karma calls
    For the devil’s that slither
Gonna lace my boots up oh real tight
The venom, the rattle, the diamond eyes
Better pull the trigger before he strikes
I'm not gonna hide, I sure ain't running
I come to the woods for snake hunting

The air is thick, the leaves are rustling
Is it the wind? You better watch your feet
You can tread the trail, or tread the water
But whatever you do don't tread on me

They can shed their skin, look shiny and new
But a snake's gonna do what a snake's gonna do

    Gonna suit up
    Going down to the river
Shotgun loaded up by my side
    Karma calls
    For the devil’s that slither
Gonna lace my boots up oh real tight
The venom, the rattle, the diamond eyes
Better pull the trigger before he strikes
I'm not gonna hide, I sure ain't running
I come to the woods for snake hunting

All coiled up, twisting the truth
    A snake's gonna do what a snake's gonna do

    Gonna suit up
    Going down to the river
Shotgun loaded up by my side
    Karma calls
    For the devil’s that slither
Gonna lace my boots up oh real tight

We All Bleed Crimson Red — A love song that runs deeper: love thy neighbor as thyself. Whatever our race, religion, gender, or sexuality — we all bleed crimson red.
    Play the lyric video
    Read the lyrics

Bulldogs don't roll with the tide
That's just the way life goes
The rivalry's fueled by the pride in the hate and it shows

    The houses are clearly divided
    Riding the line is taboo
    You're one or the other
    No wavering
    You have to choose

So, how the hell is this thing workin'?
I'm not sure God even knows
When you love who you love
All you can do is let go

Let 'em all judge if they want to
We're defending our ground 'til the end
    And the simple truth is
    We all bleed crimson red

We both agreed to be faithful
To the colors our hearts were raised on
So when Saturday comes it's okay if we don't get along

So, how the hell is this thing workin'?
I'm not sure God even knows
When you love who you love
All you can do is let go

Let 'em all judge if they want to
We're defending our ground 'til the end
    And the simple truth is
    We all bleed crimson red
    Yeah

So, how the hell is this thing workin'?
I'm not sure God even knows
When you love who you love
All you can do is let go

Let 'em all judge if they want to
We're defending our ground 'til the end
    And the simple truth is
    We all bleed crimson red
    Yeah the simple truth is
    We all bleed crimson red

    The world‘s on fire
    Water’s gettin' higher
    Strange lights in the sky
But you just got a call from the boss man
Saying you gotta be at work by 9

    Bills are rising
    Jobs are downsizing
    The trust is nearly gone
    People getting dresses
    Trying to look impressive
    The show must go on

    Just down the road
    People are broken
    No voice to be spoken
It ain't pretty at the end of the day

Let's take a moment to feel
    Stand together, be real
Give a shoulder to lean on
Cause that's all we have anyway
Be the light, the hope, and the faith

    Be the light
    The hope
    And the faith

    The earth is angry
    Wind is crying
Can we turn this thing around? (turn it around)
Grains of sand are running low
    So pay attention now

    Just down the road
    People are broken
    No voice to be spoken
It ain't pretty at the end of the day

Let's take a moment to feel (feel, yeah)
Stand together, be real (be real)
Give a shoulder to lean on
Cause that's all we have anyway
Be the light, the hope, the faith

    It’s not just about you
It’s about all of us (all of us)
    We’re better together (better together)
And stronger than ever (stronger than ever)

    Oh yeah

Be the light, the hope, and the faith (be the light)
Be the light, the hope, and the faith (the hope and the faith)
Be the light, the hope, and the faith (be the light)
Be the light, the hope, and the faith (hope and faith)

    Just down the road
    People are broken
    No voice to be spoken
It ain't pretty at the end of the day

Let's take a moment to feel
Stand together, be real (be real, y'all)
Give a shoulder to lean on (lean on)
Cause that's all we have anyway
Be the light, the hope, and the faith (I know we can do it)

Be the light, the hope, and the faith (yes, we can)

    Hey!

    Be the light

If God Had a Number — Written alone, after everything else: why do bad things still happen? The answer the whole album builds to — have faith. Everything happens for a reason. God has a plan.
    Play the lyric video
    Read the lyrics

Why is the world so hateful?
Why do bad things happen to the best people?
    Why is the sky blue?
And why is the grass green?

    Why is everyone misunderstood?
Why is it so hard for anyone to see any good?
    Why is there no truth?
And why do lies run deep?

    If God had a number
    He’d have mine memorized
Cause I’d be calling no short of a thousand times
    If God had a number
    I'd have the answer
    To every why
If God had a number I'd have it on speed dial

Why do we all fall in love?
And why does it always end with us feeling dumb?
    Why do we care?
    And why do people change?

    Why do the birds fly?
And why do the bees sting?
    Why do the tides rise?
    And why are there hurricanes?
    All of these questions
    Life has no answers
    We just go along

    If God had a number
    He’d have mine memorized
Cause I’d be calling no short of a thousand times
    If God had a number
    I'd have the answer
    To every why
If God had a number I'd have it on speed dial

I know it’s for the best
To not have any answers to these questions
Cause everything happens for a reason
And everyone’s where they’re supposed to be
So I guess life’s unknowns can be unbeknownst to me

    If God had a number
    He’d have mine memorized
Cause I’d be calling no short of a thousand times
    If God had a number
    I'd have the answer
    To every why

    If God had a number
    He’d have mine memorized
Cause I’d be calling no short of a thousand times
    If God had a number
    I'd have the answer
    To every why
If God had a number I'd have it on speed dial

    Why do the birds fly?
And why do the bees sting?
    Why do the tides rise?
    And why are there hurricanes?
    All of these questions
    Life has no answers
    We just go along

    If God had a number...

Who Made This Record

The album began on a Zoom call: All it Takes is a Little Faith, written with Justine Blazer and Nona Brown, was the first song — the title track soon followed from the same trio. In Nashville, Cara wrote Paint Me in Your Colors and You’re Making Me a Believer with Blazer and Steve O’Brien — and Snake Hunting that same day, when Danica Hart joined the room. The next day, writing with Blazer and Corey Lee Barker, came Ain’t That What Love Does, Bad Days With You, We All Bleed Crimson Red, and Devil Don’t Mess With Me. Back home, reflecting on everything they had written, Cara wrote the closer — If God Had a Number — alone.

All lead vocals were recorded at Ten7Teen Studios in Nashville on March 24–25, 2025, with We All Bleed Crimson Red and If God Had a Number re-recorded that May 10 — the closer in a lower key, and Crimson Red, written in 6/4 time, mastered working with her vocal coach. Then the record went wide: additional vocals and strings arrived from Oakland, Brooklyn, Atlanta, Miami, Houston, Sacramento, Nashville, Lynn, Rhode Island, Athens, Moscow, and Mumbai — an album made by voices across three continents.
